Check with your power company, alot of them have programs that finance the system.

Paying for it out-right is always the best way but an equity line will prevent you from having to shell out the cash right away.
A few things I would look at:
1. How much is the heat pump and is an equity line necessary?
2. If you do get an equity line, are there other things that you need to get with it – remember, its a line of credit, so you could do some other home improvement.
3. What is the interest rate?
4. Shop around for the interest rate – banks and on line.The best approach is to buy it out-right of course, that way you don’t owe someone, but sometimes, we all can’t shell out that amount of cash.

Depends how much it costs. If its something expensive take a home equity line of credit. You get the lowest possible interest rate and its tax deductible-how can you go wrong?
