Tiling Complete Walk-in Shower?
Question : Tiling Complete Walk-in Shower?
I have a shower in my basement that is made out of masonry brick and a concrete floor. The old homeowners painted the enclosure and I want to install tile. I have installed both floor and wall tile in my upstairs bathroom and think I can tackle this but I still have a few questions: If I were to scrape the chipping paint off can I tile right over the brick and cement floor? or do I need a backer board of some sort for the walls? Also I know that there are special adhesives to use for shower floors, so which is best? I am planning on using smaller square tiles on the floor of the shower (I figured that would be much easier so I can maintain the slope towards the drain) and larger tiles on the wall. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You just used on the floor? Brother…
If it’s not leaking any water I would remove any chipping paint and then a few coats of Red Guard on the walls and floor.
If the bricks are smooth then red guard and thinset and tile. If the walls aren’t smooth use cement backerboard(1/4″ should do). Attach to walls with thinset and drill with masonary bit and screws.
