If my apartment building burned down tomorrow, would I be covered?
Question : If my apartment building burned down tomorrow, would I be covered?
I do not have renter’s insurance.
However, if my apartment building burned down tomorrow, through absolutely no fault of my own, would the insurance that the landlord company has pay for my loss of belongings? I looked through my lease and didn’t see anything about this.

Nope. You need to buy renter’s insurance to cover your possessions. Typically costs about $ 200 per year.

Probably not, but it depends on the cause of the destruction. If the destruction is attributed to the landlord (faulty construction, electrical/plumbing/structural failure), then you could probably sue the landlord. However, if the destruction was caused by another tenant, then you would need to sue that tenant. If the destruction was caused by God, then you’ll need to sue God.
Why not just buy renters insurance? It’s relatively cheap ($ 70/year) and even covers personal property stolen.
Also, what would you do if you did accidentally burn down your apartment building through your own fault? Why would you expect your landlord to have insurance but not insure yourself?

The building would be covered; your personal property would not. Most landlords would provide temporary housing till the repairs were done but they have no obligation to repay or replace your personal property. Renters insurance is not expensive, you should do an inventory of your possessions in written form or photographs. Keep this record somewhere other than your residence. You can start your insurance for as little as $ 10,000.00 of coverage and increase it as your paycheck allows till you have the coverage you need. One of the things you should ask your agent is about replacement cost on contents. Most insurance policies will pro rate your loss based on the age of the items. Replacement cost on contents normally will cover you up to %400 of the original cost for replacement purpose. This coverage differs between insurance companies and between states that regulate the insurance carrier so ask your agent. When purchasing an insurance policy be sure to read the last page of the policy under the heading exclusions that will tell you everything you’re not covered for.

Well there is nothing like being the fifth wheel in a three wheel race,
I can not tell you anymore than what has been said for this answer.
The owner of the apartment building has insurance to cover the building along with other things that can happen now and then to the owner. (slip and fall)
The best way to get covered and a piece of mind to know that you have gone out and purchased a years of rental insurance. The cost is very reasonable compared to Replacement of everything in case it would ever happen. -
