How should I and how much will it cost to relocate from Los Angeles to NYC?
Question : How should I and how much will it cost to relocate from Los Angeles to NYC?
I just accepted a job offer I’m NYC. I live in LA. When I asked about a relocation service they told me to figure how much the cost of the move (get quotes) would be and they would pay for it. I need to know what should they pay for. I don’t want to accidentally leave out an expense and be stuck paying for it. How do I draft a proposal for the move? An estimate price of moving a small 1bd room apt from LA to NYC might cost.

Best way to get your stuff to NY in one piece is to drive a U-Haul yourself… If you’re taking a car (not really a good idea if you’re going to be living in The City) you can tow it on behind. Don’t forget to include the price of fuel and motels. Good luck.
If they are offering to pay for your move, then you should price out what it would cost for you to move or ship your belongings. Why rent a U-Haul and go through the stress of driving it across company and in NYC if your company will pay for a full-service move?
Here is what I would do. Call some local movers in your area. Start with agents for the national van lines (United, Mayflower, Atlas, Allied, Arpin, etc.) and have them come to your home to give you an accurate estimate. If you decide not to work with a national van line, make sure you vet your mover through FMSCA’s website and Movingscam.com to make sure that they are legit. If all you have is boxes, there is a company called ShipSmart that is pretty good for smaller moves.
Once you have your moving estimate, find out how much it will cost to fly to NYC. Also, consider miscellaneous expenses on the way, including meals.
Itemize each expense in an excel sheet and send it to the company. They will let you know how to proceed.
Good luck!
