Question : I have a Maytag Neptune washer that has serious mold problems around the door and it smells awlful.?
I have tried everything to get this mold off, bleach, Lime Away, and nothing will touch it. Any suggestions?

This is a common problem with front-loaders. The door gasket retains water and bits of debris that are meant to be cleaned out by hand.
I have combated this problem by making it a household policy to leave the door open an inch or two when it is not in use. Fresh air lets everything dry out so mildew is less likely to occur.
Run a load of whites with bleach and very hot water. When the load is finished, dry the gasket by hand and leave the door open. If the odor persists, buy a big jar of Tang, dump the whole thing into the washer and run the thing empty using hot water again.

You might need to replace the gasket now that it is so bad. You can go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com and look it up and purchase it from sears or call around to your local appliance parts store. Then leave both the door and the soap/bleach dispenser open to create air circulation so that it does not happen again.

I don’t have a Neptune but do have a front loader and have also had nasty mildew smells.
I tried wiping out the rubber gasket after washing sessions and leaving the door open. Those things helped some, but the best tip I got (thank you, whoever you were!!) was to leave the door open AND the little drawer for the laundry powder/ bleach too… that creates air *circulation* all the way through and does the trick!
Really hope this helps you too. I was practically sick when I had to breathe that smell all the time.
For visible black-colored mildew or mold, bleach usually works, or you might need to replace the gasket? If that doesn’t work, try the guys at repairclinic.com.

Ok this sounds like the same problem I had when I washed my clothes. I called frigeadare and the customer service rep said not to leave wet clothing in the washer and rerun the machine without clothes and soap and after that leave the door open and let it dry out. it may be the seal around the door that you smell.But the least I would do is call the customer service rep and see what they say.

Wipe it down with a bleach solution. In the future leave the door ajar so it’ll air out.
