Question : Is it normal to sign land registry owner transfer papers for a house sale before the sale is confirmed ?
A relative has signed papers for land registry transfer to a prospective purchaser and sent them back to the solicitors without an agreement or confirmation of a sale. I am concerned that this might pose a risk over property rights at some point. Am I correct or worrying for no reason ?

It is a bit questionable having no documentation of the sale. However depending on what country you are in, they usually require a sale contract in the process of land registration + they will ask about the sale value for tax purposes. It seems like a good idea to use an escrow service for the sellers peace of mind during the sale period.
