Why is everyone in my house sick?
Question : Why is everyone in my house sick?
I am 25, I live with a roommate and his girlfriend. My roommate is 32 and she is 30. Since moving into this new house, we have all been experiencing morning sickness. Now the sickness is dragging on through the day. Sometimes until 7 or 8 pm we will feel nauseous. Everyday at least one of us vomits. We went on a trip out of state for a week after moving into the house and all the symptoms cleared. We have had the house checked for gas leaks, and installed new carbon monoxide testers. Is mold a possibility? Also, fruits and vegetables are rotting in a matter of days. We can buy a green tomato and place it in the window sill, after 3 or 4 days, the tomato will be rotten (black in the inside). Is this possibly mold? Other symptoms include: hot/cold flashes, fatigue, dizziness. This problem is getting to be bad and we do not know what to do. The home is an older home (raised off the ground) with hardwood floors. Some spots on the flooring look similar to pictures I have seen on Google of hardwood mold. (Big dark spots, some 3ft in diameter, they go down in size to about the size of a dime and the floor in the living room is riddled with them) Two bedrooms in the home are carpeted (actually, carpet laid over the old existing hardwood). The landlord swears the spots are “pet stains” but if they are I have never seen any so bad, it looks as if the dog mess was allowed to sit and soak into the wood for years. Does anyone have any advice?

Tell your landlord to get the house tested for mold, your symptoms sound like they could be the result of mold. As for the fruits rotting, I suppose it makes sense that the presence of mold would quicken their ripening, and subsequent rotting. Either way, the house is a “sick” one, so it may be best to seek to get a reversal on the lease, so you can move out to another place.
It could be mold. Get the house tested for mold. If it is confirmed to be mold problem, move out from the house until the mold is thoroughly cleaned. Mold is very hazardous and it can cause fatal illnesses to your upper respiratory system. Don’t this matter lightly.
