Question : how do i get assist. setting up electronic testimony 4 child supprt hearin in new york?i’m in los angeles.
my son’s father filed with family court in new york to reduce his support payments. they sent me an electronic testimony application. i contacted the support enforcement agancy in los angeles county, but they have no idea what i was talking about. he lives in n.y. and i live in los angeles. the original order was established when i lived in new york.

The guy I share my office with a guy who is doing the same thing in NY right now. If he was here, instead of on the phone with the court, I would ask him. Call the courthouse in NY for guidance, not in LA.

BUT:
If you have custody of the kids and they reside with you in LA then that is the state in which support modifications should be filed. I would advise the court that they do not have jurisdiction and then file in LA. Let him try to fight long distance. Talk to the family court in LA to establish the venue.

Sometimes the judges will talk directly to each other to settle the issue of where the case should be heard. I tried to answer a question similar to this for someone in VA and I found a case law there where the judges conferred with each other. I don’t know about your case though. There is a federal guideline on it.

I just tried looking up LA county family court to see if they publish a timeframe for residency but it just said that you could file anytime.
