Horse retirement farm in Virginia?
Question : Horse retirement farm in Virginia?
I have a 20 YO Saddlebred. We have had her since she was 3. For the past 3 years I have been boarding her after 17 years of having her at our home (which we moved). Now I don’t have the time for her that she deserves and it is getting really hard to pay her board. I do not want to sell her. I really don’t trust selling her b/c I don’t trust what might happen to her since her age and she’s not very well trained and she’s part lame b/c of a hoof crack she’s had her entire life. So, I am looking to see if I can find a farm that will take her to retire. But the only ones I can find charge a fee and I can’t afford to do that. I don’t know what to do. I really love her, I just can’t keep her anymore. Any advise would be appreciated.

How about finding a therapedic riding school. Many of these schools take horses and dont charge a fee. If your horse loves people and children, she would fit into a program really well. If you dont know what they do, well it is like physical therapy only for mind and soul as well. Therapedic riding gives a child or adult that cant walk a chance to ride a horse, dreams are endless for people with disabilities and horses! If you cant find one ask a doctor, clinic etc. they sould help you in your area find a center.
