Question : My Daughter Lost Everything In Apartment Fire… What Else Can She Do?
She has just $ 3,000 in renter’s insurance. The fire broke out on New Year’s Eve, in Virginia Beach, while she was up here in NY home for the holidays. It was fault of a tenant, smoking somehow caused the fire. Can she file a claim against the apartment complex for additional losses that her insurance won’t cover (beyond $ 3,000)???
Does she have any other way to cover total losses?? She lost everything, and has nothing. No job at this time, she just was discharged medically from the Navy, and her Fiance’ is currently in the Navy, out to sea….scheduled for deployment to Iraq next month. He shared the apartment with her. She feels so helpless at this time, and so do I, being up here in NY unable to be there with her. Any suggestions or answers will be so appreciated!
