Question : Which major retailers can do a credit card lookup of your receipt (for return purposes)?
Some stores allow you to return items without a receipt if you present a credit card used in the original purchase. I know Target does it, but don’t know of anyone else. Particularly interested if this is available at any home improvement stores (Lowes, Home Depot) and major department stores. I’m in Maryland. Thanks.

a lot of places will accept a return. It’s more beneficial to keep you as a customer so you can buy more stuff than to dispute an item and lose you for good.
Best Buy took a cash return by looking up the receipt – they wanted to know when the items were purchased, the total cost of the items and how much money was tendered for payment. The system worked pretty darn well even as my own memory was taxed.
I’ve done many such returns for my wife but I don’t have a credit card and no store has ever asked me for a credit card. Cash transactions are dealt in cash, Cash can be given back for some debit transactions (depending on the store).
