Help! I got a virus and now can’t open exe files?
Question : Help! I got a virus and now can’t open exe files?
Somehow I got a virus that seriously messed my computer up. After 2 days of using bit-defender, malware-bytes, and home-call I finally got the virus out of my system. The virus had infected two files: mschrt20ex.dll and MSDERUN.exe. When my computer deleted these two files I thought I had won. When I restarted my computer, no exes will run. I am using Win 7 64 bit Home Premium. Any time I click on an exe it pops up a message ‘file type not recognized, choose the program you want to open the file.’ I have tried the various registry entries and those did not work. I know that exe files do work however, because I can get into a few if I ‘back door’ it. For example, I can open my internet by telling windows to search for the exe file association on-line. So my internet runs, but no other programs work. I don’t have a backup disk for my computer. It is still under warranty, but I have valuable info on here that I don’t want to lose. Any suggestions?
