CHECKSUM ERROR MESSAGE on new computer?
Question : CHECKSUM ERROR MESSAGE on new computer?
We just purchased a new computer from circuit city within the last couple days. The salesperson was trying to tell us we needed to get a warranty and also that we had to buy an antivirus program (NORTON). He said that it didn’t come with one. We didn’t buy either warranty or antivirus because on all of our computers we have a free trial of AVAST and on all of our previous computers that we bought the warranty on we never used it. Anyways the guy seemed irritated at the fact that we didnt buy either ( I dont know if he gets some sort of commision or something for selling the warranty?) He went back to make sure there was one in stock or something and checked us out. When we got home and hooked up the computer it had an error message that I wasnt able to read when it was turned on(disappeared to soon) but every startup it says “Files may be corrupt. CHECKSUM doesn’t match computed CHECKSUM.” We have already put files on the computer before we seen the error. What should we do?
I’ve looked up possible causes and I think it might be likely the battery is defective. Should we take the computer back (return it as it is still within the 14 day return policy…may face restocking fee) OR should we exchange it OR are they responsible to fix it as it is still within the 14 days? As I said we already put files and programs on it because I didn’t realize it was an error message when it was first started i thought it was simply part of the start up as I didn’t read it in time.

they have to fix or replace it so take it back but first copy all your files you put on it to disc or something

It’s prob the memory is bad.
I’d take it back and ask for a replacement. I’d mark it in a way that is hard to see. A small scratch on the bottom where you know you did it. Just to see if they give you the same one back.
If they tell you that they will just fix it then you’ll have to live with it.
