Do you have to take your car to the dealership you bought it from for repairs covered under the warranty?

Or can it be any dealership of the same brand?
I want to buy a car from a dealership but it’s literally 100 miles away. They buy the kind of car I want in volume so there’s a good discount. The only problem would be having to drive 100 miles to and then 100 miles back home just for maintenance or repairs. If I need to take my car in for maintenance or for a repair covered under the warranty, can I instead take it to any dealership of the same brand that is closer to me?

You don’t necessarily have to bring it to the dealership where you purchased it, but I bet you’d get better service if you did.

It depends.
New car warranties are based on the MANUFACTURER, not the dealer. So, if you have a VW, you can take it to any VW dealer for service in Canada or the US.
In very rare cases though, a dealership will sell you is an extended warranty that is only issued by the dealership. You’d have to look at that extended warranty portion. In that case, then yes you could only get the warranty work at that dealership.
