New York: Take a bite of the Big Apple
to bite, or many bites of the Big Apple. So we took the NJ Transit in New York. The modern coach is going to the Authority on 42nd Street Port. The Port Authority is one of many in ground transportation hubs New York. Most of your coach is there and can connect to almost any subway line to make a tunnel in Times Square. The hubs are from Grand Central Railway Station, the subway shuttle to Times Square and Penn Station, a two-stop trip on the underground line. The subway system in Manhattan is the fast and efficient transport on the island, each with stations in five fifty-six blocks. The system for the confusion with many independent companies, the different letters are referred to: IRT, BMT, etc. Today, the different routes are designated by colors and numbers or letters. A map showing all roads and entry points. The current system of metro is very easy to follow. It is also safe, in contrast to the view of some people. Here are some little-known facts about the system. The tunnels go at least eight stories below ground. There are miles of mazes, even in the tubes themselves, where the homeless have taken residence. On one of the lines of Manhattan, Queens, traces of literally rolling on the water beneath the East River. Even the engineers do not know how to fix the problem. Proceeds from the switches is via a special train moves, the system delivered. The trains are very long, at least ten cars in length. The New York City comprises five boroughs. Kings (Manhattan), Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Richmond (Staten Iceland). All parts of the city by subway or train or bus, except Staten Iceland, which is served by ferry famous connected. Learn more about the different areas where we visit them.
I went into the desert at Cafe Lalo, where “You’ve Got Mail” part of the movie was filmed. Then we went to Broadway in Fairfield market, a few blocks south of the famous Zabar, an instrument shop for food and cooking (but much more: an experiment). I was surprised by the variety of fresh vegetables and meat, fish, poultry and relatively low prices. The fairways are very tight in the store, due to the fact that space is a premium in Manhattan. Order an unlimited number of Metro Pass, .00 for the week, and jump on a bus in the city center committed to Broadway. Downtown means to the battery, the southern tip of Manhattan.
is Uptown is north and the Cross-City of the East River (east side) or Hudson River (West Side). What to look for a wonderful and safe way to the city. We passed through Columbus Circle, Central Park on the border, Julliard, Lincoln Center, the theater district and Times Square dynamic expensive courses. The bus traveled east on 42nd Street and the Public Library, Grand Central Station and ended at the Palais des Nations.
Until fate has us where we visited the famous UN building. Mati from Senegal in West Africa, was our guide was very knowledgeable about the functioning of the United Nations. This is not the paper tiger that some people claim it is. This is a forum for all nations of the world to discuss mutual concerns: military conflicts, landmines, disease, hunger, trade, etc. Maybe the real tigers are the ones who want to control other nations or to make large profits through the promotion of these problems . Some of the rooms were used, namely the Security Council and the Council for Economic and Social Justice. They were at the meeting.
The bus from the downtown Lexington Avenue continues. On the way we were in Chinatown, the Bowery, Little Italy, Greenwich Village rock, and ended at City Hall. There are so many different types of restaurants in New York to eat at a different level each night and can not be repeated in the course of your life.
Today we rode the subway. First we went to Uptown the northern tip of Manhattan in Fort Tryon Park. It is the culmination of Manhattan, overlooking both the Hudson and East River. At the northernmost point of the park is The Cloisters Museum. This unique museum consists of five medieval cloisters from demolition of buildings in Europe saved, together with numerous chapels and artifacts. Some of the sculpture like a scarecrow used by farmers, while others were found in clusters. A room in circulation is the unicorn tapestries, that tell of the hunt, death and resurrection of the unicorn, a symbol of Jesus Christ. The tapestries are more than a hundred different species of plants in the medieval stories interwoven. They are breathtaking, not only their beauty but also the textures of the armor.
We went to Times Square, then jumped on Highway No. 7 subway to Queens and Flushing Meadows, site of the 1963 World’s Fair with the massive sculpture in the world. On both sides of the station are Shea Stadium, home of the NY Mets baseball and Arthur Ashe Stadium, site of the tournament for the U.S. Open. Back on the train from Times Square and Coney Iceland Road W at the tip of Brooklyn. We ate a world of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog. It can not compare to a Chicago Hot Dog Vienna. The amusement park was closed, open only on weekends during the school is in session. The cyclone, its famous roller coaster, had just closed. Thank you very much our stomachs growling for this lack of time. There is daily from 12:00 to 04.00 clock. The mountains not far ago. But appearances are deceiving. This baby shakes, rattles and rolls. I wanted to see if it always gave me the same feeling as I rode the last time in 1963. But the day before was later never came.
This day to visit the Grande Dame of New York City, the Statue of Liberty was reserved. Take the train to Battery Park at the lower tip of Manhattan, we bought our tickets at Castle Clinton, once a guardian fortress for the port, then a concert hall (the American debut of Jenny Lind) and a port comes to immigration, and now the ticket for Notre Dame. Circular in design, it is only right that we happen to be welcomed by a fortress for access to the great lady. The crossing is 15 minutes from Governors Iceland, it is easy to admire and deep feelings of overwhelming joy for millions of immigrants who present originally as her veil during Verrazano Narrows in New York Harbor. The statue, donated by France over a century, stands on another fort, one of the five were guarding the port. The base rises eleven stories and the lady herself is 151 meters. Once again, security is very tight and visitors are not allowed in the museum at the base, or in the crown. But should just be in his presence, as we say in Hebrew, “Dayenu” (It would have been sufficient).
boarding the boat went back there after Ellis Iceland, built in 1892 to the processing of the great flood of immigrants. Both of our ancestors came from before that date, they could by Castle Clinton, AKA, gardens or another port of entry. Charlie Walker was our leader Ranger. After a sergeant, he has to fit one vote. He missed his calling on the scene, because the tour was more of a live presentation with a gallery of characters in a story boring facts and figures. He loves his job. The experience of Iceland Ellis was the third-class passengers reserved. Remember the movie “Titanic” was the steerage of the lowest of the low. Passengers in the first and second class were treated on board the vessels. After landing, the ship went to Ellis Iceland. He played in the third class in the eyes of the inspectors. I remembered images of the Holocaust, and the prisoners “selected” were. If you are funny, go protest, looked fragile chalk or clothing for the inspection and further processing was highlighted. Many of these people were fleeing tyrannical regimes and have been scared of men in uniform. Here in America, she’s been told by the men. Families were separated, while the transformation takes place by men on one side and women and children the room. The good news is that the process usually took less than five hours and only 2% of the twelve million immigrants have been deported to their home countries. Those who remained took the train west from New Jersey or remained in New York, the digging of the subway or other bone work jobs.
to Battery Park, we went to Broadway. At the entrance to the sculpture of the Globe of Peace was that was in the World Trade Center Plaza. Miraculously he survived the tragedy and is now at the foot of Broadway to the acquisition by an eternal flame was observed. Although damaged, the world has for peace in this world.
through the financial district, a war zone, barricades and armed police patrolling the area is similar to running. Our goal was Federal Hall in the corners of Nassau, Broad and Wall streets. Federal Hall was the first capital of the United States. Here Washington was sworn in as president and the Congress meets. The building is torn down long ago. In its place is a neoclassical building designed the Parthenon-like exterior and interior of the Pantheon-like. Used as a customs station, then as a custodian of the gold reserves of the United States during the Civil War, it is now a museum to remember our first capital. One of their most prized possessions, the Bible is that Washington’s opening (the one that wanted to use to the President Bartlett on “The West Wing”) used
down the famed Wall Street, where so many never so few were raped (written five years ago), we entered Trinity Church, where many come to pray after losing their life savings in the street. Built in 1696, has resisted the church many accidents on Wall Street. Famous people are buried Alexander Hamilton and Robert Fulton. said
Many people visit us, with the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Fortunately, we followed their advice. Started in 1892, this Gothic church for more than two football fields long. The cathedral is still unfinished, but nonetheless spectacular. Each set of windows has a different theme: poetry, medicine, law, etc. is standing in a huge lesson in humility, not to be overlooked. Around the main altar, side chapels, one for local artists to present their work. At that time, the children of the cathedral school have their works exhibited.
From St. John’s is a short bus ride away from the grave of Grant, where he and his wife were alone. The interior is comparable to the grave of Napoleon in Paris. Mrs.Grant chose New York because the people were nice to them after they had become destitute. The grave on fences overlooking the Hudson River and Riverside Park sits.
Next to the grave is Sukaru Park, so named because of the many cherry trees in the parks, which were donated by the Japanese government named. In the park stands a statue of General Daniel Butterworth, composer taps (remember Berkeley Plantation, Virginia). He is looking at the grave of Grant, with their eyes on this holy land.
side of the road is Riverside Church, a Presbyterian Church for its carillon bells of the great seventies known. The nave of the church is Gothic, but not so large, St. John’s. The church is part of the Union Theological Seminary, which is connected with Colombia in the university district.
Stir in the train again in the birthplace of Theodore Roosevelt. This is a big brownstone at 28 East 20th Street. The original house was demolished and was rebuilt according to plans of similar design to others in the neighborhood. His sisters were still living instructions at the floor plan and design of furniture in the house, because she remembered. Roosevelt was born to a wealthy family, was suffering from asthma. After losing his first wife and mother in the same week, he moved to North Dakota to find. There he found his love of nature and the independence of the ordinary working people. To prove his manhood, he wanted a war, where he explodes at the U.S. battleship Maine in Havana harbor, Cuba. The Spaniards were responsible for the destruction done. He founded the Rough Riders in San Antonio, Texas, and the rest is history. His presidency, he declared that the construction of the Panama Canal His greatest success. Although he was a warmonger and empire builder, he was the first American awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the support of the Japanese war Russia will end.
A short distance south Greenwich Village, not quite the bohemian atmosphere that was in the 60s. There is still a nascent area of restaurants, small theaters, interesting shops and people watch. Washington Square, the quasi-official entry in the region still has his ladies and chess tables with games has set in progress.
arrested by the Lincoln Center and bought tickets for the New York City Ballet matinee. Lincoln Center, 64 and Broadway is the complex of the performing arts in New York. Accompanying a beautiful fountain, a focal point in many films, the Metropolitan Opera House dead ahead, was Avery Fisher Hall on the right, the home of the Philharmonic Orchestra of New York, New York State Theater on the left, the home of New York City Ballet. Just outside of the horseshoe is Julliard School of Music.
Participation in Ballet. Concerto Barocco program, Sinfonia, Symphony in Three Movements, and the Carnival of the Animals. The music was composed by Bach, Stravinsky and Saint-Saens, respectively. The ballet by George Balanchine was taken for its precision and beauty in the details and technical note. Today should be returned to the shoe toe to the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago.
A new production of a ballet was planned today, Carnival of the Animals. The choreographer is Christopher Wheeldon, a great talent at the age of 29 He asked John Lithgow, star of “Third Rock from the Sun”, write a story for the ballet. Mr. Lithgow has written many books for children and jumped at the chance. His story is about a boy, Oliver, in a natural history museum included for the night. The animals come to life, but they look like people in his personal life. The costumes depicted animals and discuss the story brings the different parts fit together seamlessly. Mr. Lithgow plays the role of the narrator and the part of the elephant, the school nurse Oliver. The ballet is very entertaining, both in mood and choreography.
