I am 15 years old, but extremely desgin savy. I love watching makeover shows and desgined my beautiful room. I need some help though, i need to know what kinds of things i should buy and where to buy them…. any suggestions? This can’t be too expensive, but nothing cheap looking.
This house is for me and my 3 brothers and dad. The house fairly large. The designs should not be too masculine looking, or too modern. My dad likes simple and clean desgins, so nothing too flashy or over the top.
Do you have any collections in mind?
alright i meant like designing the rooms, not designing the structure of the house… just incase that was unclear.

Lots of points of interest. Okay I will guess fairly large is
about 2200 square feet. Plus garage, loft, cupboards, baths, and basement, maybe finished attic. First thing is to
work with the year and basic ideal design. You can draw,
do the floor layout with the purple pen and simple boxes
that represent the ideal house for we will say busy family.
The furnishings should come from a surplus type of store.
Train station deals are the best for your total project. Due
to this is an entire house, we will start with bureaus. The second deal is to check with recycling like hotels, or auctions.
Sets of furniture once it is 4 or 5 or more should cost about
20% of new. This saves up to 25,000 first detail. Also when
you select decoratives consider real consignment shoppes.
Recycling but with a little elbow working on the finishes.
Though this gives you good control of the effect and themes
add in the final point, your house should start with absolutely
what solid fix-ups you want for fun, safety, and relaxation.
Library books at goodwill, can get you off and movng ahead
+ maybe second projects is for family hobby tool room.

For color scheme ideas go to Sherwin Williams and look at their paint chips. Their Martha Stewart line also shows coordinating colors to help you see what will look good together. Take the hints from those cards and apply it to your entire room that you are designing.
You also may want to research color wheels if you haven’t already done so.
As for furniture/ decor choices try Overstock for rugs and Crate and Barrel and Pier 1 for furniture.

Well my Aunt is an interior designer, and one of the things she says is that you should always try and use what you already have first. So, I guess you should first “go shopping” in his old house.
If you are going to buy new things, remember that you are dealing with guys. Don’t go with anything that can’t hide a stain, or gets dirty easily. No white textiles, and no flat wall paints! I’d honestly go with bright, neutral colors because they are the most agreeable, and after all you are designing for all of you, not just yourself. Make sure you have enough storage and seating everywhere.
Tips if you are going to paint:
1.) Like I said before, no flat paints! Try egg shell
2.) Always prime first, and never paint over wall paper.
3.) Use good paints. Go to Home Depot, and get Beur, or RL.
4.) Also, as said before, use bright and neutral colors. That doesn’t mean you have to do tan everything, but you should stick to light purples, blues, yellows, grays, greens, or browns/tans.
5.) Use paint samples first, and check them out many times throughout the day before you paint! I made this mistake once. My paint color looked amazing in the daytime, but at night, it looked dingy and tacky!Other things to consider:
1.) Guys don’t like to sort laundry. If you buy towels, they should all go together. Each bathroom should have color schemes that work together!
2.) Your dad probably already picked out stuff he liked, so use as much as you can of that.
3.) Put function before form.
4.) Don’t do anything you can’t undo, or don’t know how to do. Try not to change the floors if you don’t have to. It’s just a big mess.Places to look:

First thing that you do is make a list of what each of you like thats living in the house. Remember too that everyone also needs their own space. Even dad. I’d go with neutral colors instead of a bolder look. You want to create an ambience so things that match will go better with your color schemes. Then your on your way….

Go to hgtv.com, bgh.com, lowe’s.com for great decorating ideas. The looks may be expensive, but with imagination & a little talent, you can copy the looks fairly cheap. hgtv.com has a show called decorating on a dime, where they redo a room cheaply, & they have videos of their shows with step by step instructions to copy the looks. Also try diy.com, for some do it yourself projects. lowe’s.com has a virtual painter, click on projects & use the painter to paint sample rooms with hundreds of colors. Lots of possibilities here.
