Hello From Montreal – Part 11 – A meeting with Andre? Giroux – Owner of a bike rental Roule?
1 July 2006
did have my guided bicycle tour with about Roule and Bruno, a licensed guide Guidatour, really introduced Montreal enjoyed around us. And my own independent investigation of the bike along the Canal Lachine introduced me to a page from Montreal, I had never been exposed. After returning my bike after a day of practice I wanted to know a little more about who is behind this operation, about Roule Montréal roles or, as it is called in English.
Montreal, incidentally, is a wonderful city to explore by bicycle. The old port, the network of cycle paths along the Lachine Canal and along the St. Lawrence River and the islands of St. Helena Iceland and Parc Jean Drapeau in the St. Lawrence are well-read bike. Of course, the road system on the Mount Royal also adds some interesting terrain for cyclists and many picturesque area of Montreal are ideal for exploring by bicycle. Montreal was voted the number one city for cyclists in 1999 by Bicycling magazine.
Wheels is a bicycle rental shop and tour the harbor at 27 Boulevard De La Commune East. André Giroux, owner, founded the company 12 years ago. He studied law and spent seven years as a lawyer specializing on litigation and legal advice to large developers. An avid athlete, playing hockey and tennis Andre and he really liked the bike and in 1994 he decided to open a little shop on the first lease rental of roller skates, general enthusiasm focused in the mid-1990s. The stability of the original equipment also included 12 bicycles. Meanwhile the fleet by more than 70 bicycles, including mountain bikes, tandems, mountain bikes, electric bikes and electric scooters has increased. His shop also rents trailers and child carriers child.
I asked him what the name of “Wheels” really means and explains that the French phrase “running” literally, but it is generally understood as “things are good,” it works fine. He explained that his shop specializes in customer service, staff is responsible, and they are to give advice on all sorts of cycling activities in and around Montreal. Each has a map of bicycle routes in the city and a bottle of water is received in each round.
The customers from all over the world including the U.S., the rest of Canada and many European countries. Rent Australia, too, Korean and Japanese travelers are muscle powered equipment from him and some of his clients referred from the hotels and the Tourist Office in Montreal. In addition, it also offers bicycle repair shop and some of his customers are repairing part of the 3,500 permanent residents, now live in Old Montreal, staff working in Old Montreal and commute by bicycle.
This rule has six employees: two technicians to repair bikes and four travel guide. He recently began working with Guidatour and the two companies together have an official City Cycling Tour, which is led by a licensed guide developed. This morning I participated in this round of official city and in my view, exploring a city by bike has one of the best ways to discover a new place.
In all the Nordic countries, the activity of the bicycle is seasonal and the season on Wheels goes from May to October, sometimes even in November, depending on the weather. In winter, Andrew on updating the website and develop strategies for future business and last year he had a chance to go to Florida to work for 3 weeks. In summer the shop is very busy and Andrew and his staff worked very had, but he tried to leave the wheel even in the evening hours 7-20 hours. He enjoys the islands of Montreal and Ile Sainte-Hélène Parc Jean-Drapeau
cycling.
Andrew also said that the wheels in a position to offer tailor-made tours. Once a group of people invited to a tour to the summit of Mount Royal to start. So he rented a van and transported several bikes at the top of the mountain to the tour group was able to begin their journey to their starting point. All kinds of special missions can be done, they could also require some call content.
With all this exercise, I was ready for dinner very solid, so I thank Andrew for his time and on the official tour guide of the city, one of the best ways to know the city and continued my research Montreal on Canada Day.
