Is it necessary to throw out any belongings that have been in an environment with non-toxic mold?
Question : Is it necessary to throw out any belongings that have been in an environment with non-toxic mold?
There’s been a heavy amount of mold spores in my apartment ever since this mold in my carpet was disrupted. And I mean “heavy amount” as in, if I set out a bowl of water, there will be gray fuzzy stuff growing at the bottom by the end of the day. Everything smells musty, and I get a lot of sore throats and headaches when I’m here.
I tested the air with one of those mold test kits (I don’t know how reliable those are) and it indicated there were several different types of common molds, but no toxic mold apparently. Regardless, I’m still wondering if it’s necessary to throw out any belongings I’ve had here when I move out to avoid transferring mold spores, and what kinds of belongings? What about electronic stuff like TVs and computers? I just got some new things and can’t afford it getting covered with mold. Please help!

Mold can be easily killed with 1/2 water and 1/2 bleach. Just make sure whatever you clean is dry. Mold is caused by moisture and you may need to get a room dryer or just a fan or two. Need to find out where the moisture is coming from to help stop this.
mold requires a supply of water, darkness,,,a hot spot ,maybe an upstairs leaky plumbing item,,,complete clean up entails, yanking all old carpet, inspection of floor and crawl space for bare dirt, often the mold ground zero,,,the crawl space ought to be covered, maybe with heavy plastic, steam sterilized and covered with masonry,or plastic
,I had this situation that I addressed by using a sun lamp,ps disinfectant foam bathroom cleaner(now discontinued,,,,,,,,,peed me off, nothing else worked like this stuff),buy a couple bottles of comparable product that kills trychophyton mentagrophytes, whadda mouthful,,,,,,,mold killer has to have this chem to be effective,,,,,,get an 8oz glass bottle, with a neck that can be covered by your thumb.,a windex spray bottle stem,,,,,,,warm water,a home depot shop vac, with removable filter, separate blow and suck ports,a flex hose and concentrator, which you tape to hose with duct tape ,so all air is blasted out,,,,,use 5 oz water,3 or 4 oz disinfectant,,,,before all this is done, mop up surface dirt, cover food or put in fridge.put kids, pets birds out of the house, nice wood furniture surfaces should be covered,,,turn on vac so it blasts air out nozzle, aim nozzle across the stem top,so as to make a spray nebulizer,,,,,,,,,or fogger,,,,,aim at every corner,up,down, sides, move from front to back, sealing doors,,it may take a couple hours if you have a lot of rooms,,if theres a basement, get that too,,,fridge maybe gets the same treatment, empty it,defrost it,wash with soap, spray with antimold stuff,,,,,spray everywhere,,park the apparatus at front door, lock door, don’t forget purse, keys, cell, etc,,,vamoose the house for 6 hrs,,,,get ultraviolet sunlamps from thrift shops, kinda hard to find these days,,,set up lamps in each room(unoccupied) for a couple hours, all this might help, another thought, the windows might be a source of water entry.mold source,
