Can a car pass inspection with the check engine light disconnected?
Question : Can a car pass inspection with the check engine light disconnected?
I recently bought a Murano from a Nissan dealer and when I got home I noticed that the check engine light was disconnected.
Before I purchase it the sales rep said everything was fine with the car and it pass nissan’s used car inspection and NY inspection so I would like to know is it possible for a car to pass inspection without the check engine light connected or functioning.
Thanks for all the quick answers. I really appreciate it.
I usually check the check engine light but for some reason I did not expect that from a authorized Nissan dealer and when they did the delivery I told them thanks and drove home, but when I got home something told me to turn on the ignition and see if the light was working and then thats when I saw it was not.
I’m so pissed myself I will take it back and tell them I do not want then to fix it, I do not want it.
Thank you all for your reply, it really helped.

Yes it is, all the inspection consists of is checking the horn, turn signals, brakes, headlights, backup light and that’s pretty much it. An inspection is not that detailed.
The check engine light is an indicator, the check engine turns on and stays on if there is a problem with the vehicle..and set a code which is read with a tool called scanner (computer)
Even if there a problem and light is on there a scanner(computer) that could erase the code and light will turn off… then when the vehicle is driven for a while the light could come back on right away or it could take while or coulpe of day but the light will come back on.
The car is probably running okay right now at the moment, but when there is a failer how would you know if there a failer with the vehicle IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISCONNECTED..(a sensor could go bad and you won’t know it intell its to late!!… and the repairs get get more expensive… than it been if the light was working correctly.. in other words you need that light working properly..)
May there a problem with, but the dealer disconncted it, so the buyer won’t know there a problem…
In my opion i think there is a problem with the vehicle that why the light disconnect and maybe the dealership also erased the code
