animal noises between 1st and 2nd floor?
Question : animal noises between 1st and 2nd floor?
Hello all,
We live in a 2-story house in Georgia built on slab and near a wooded area.
Recently, we called in a pest control company to seal the gaps we had in fascia/gutters near the roof and in the attic as we heard scratching noises from squirrels/rats.
Now, they did seal the gutter/fascia gasp and the attic, but still there are noises coming from above the ceiling of the first floor.
I don’t think we have crawlspace in our home. Where could the rodents be coming from to get in above the 1st floor?
How do we inform the pest company to get rid of them? Already paid them for sealing work/exclusion work. We do have a 2-year warranty.
Thank you!!

i think it is one of those weird zombies that crawl around
Between your first and second floors, there is an open space created by the upper floor joists. This gap is likely 8-12 inches, and offers plenty of space for critters to live. But how do they get in there?
One possibility is external venting/ducting running through one or more of the joist bays. Such ducting can be installed for bathroom ventilation fans, combustion air intake for a fireplace, dryer vent, etc. If one of these vents are not capped and sealed properly, it is an open door for animals.
Depending upon the design and construction of your house, they might also gain entry from your soffit vents. That would be a good place to look at first.
