Question : how to get temporary license plates when buying from a private seller?
im planning on buying a car from a private seller soon.i live in new jersey and the car is also located in jersey as well.once i pay him the money,he’ll give me the title for the car.But how do i drive the car home without license plates?where do i go to get temporary license plates for my car so i can drive it home?also,the car has a nj inspection sticker on it already and it’s good till 2010 but do i have to get it checked again once i buy the car?

Okay, Lets start from your buying the car from a private party. You can not drive the car without plates. You can check with the local DMV in Jersey and go with your drivers license-insurance ID card. You will have to have the bill of sale for the car your buying. Jersey will issue you a temp. in-transit permit. As far as the Inspection sticker goes. Once you register the car at your home address you will HAVE to get another inspection. Jersey has the inspection info on there system so you will have like 10 days to get another inspection. No big deal. Everything will start with you calling your insurance company and telling them of your intention to take the car from point A to point B. I believe that most Insurance companies will just let the policy cover both things. The initial getting It home and getting the Plates. Good Luck
