I was planning on having my basement finished. Could I wait to have the stamped decorative concrete floor done?
Question : I was planning on having my basement finished. Could I wait to have the stamped decorative concrete floor done?
until after the walls are framed out and sheetrocked and painted and the drop ceiling installed? It would make it a lot easier as far as painting and dealing with any mess. Does this work to do the stamped concrete after everything else?
In general, does the type of flooring you are choosing affect the order in which you would proceed in finishing a basement?

finishing off the floor after everything else is done is a good idea that way you want have to worry about people tracking on it. the flooring will need to sit for awhile with out any traffic.

since the stamped concrete is a structural part, unlike other types of flooring which are applied over the structure, it must be done first. the wall framing sits on top of the floor. You wouldn’t want to do it after anyway since concrete is a messy job and you would end up with it splattered all over the walls and everything. just lay down some heavy plastic or cheap plywood or even old carpet to protect the floor until the rest is done.

It’s wise of you to make this a concern. So many people put the cart before the horse. When doing a project the general rule is inside out top down. Floors are always the last on the list. I would however have the floor floated prior to framing if it’s uneven. If you do have the floor re floated consider installing radiant floor heating.

Get the floor done first.
The stamping is hard to work around partitions, closets and door openings and finished walls.
