Question : What is the most economical method of getting engineering on an owner/built post-frame workshop/garage?
What is the most economical method of getting structural engineering on an owner/built post-frame workshop/garage? I want to design and build myself, but it requires engineering before I can submit my plans to my local county building dept. The local structural engineers in my remote area are extremely expensive. Any good ideas out there?

Yes, see if there are some designs in a book at Lowe’s or on HGTV and then adjust them to meet your needs. There are actual books out there that contain the blueprints for doing that. Take a look. I have seen many, even at the newsstand.
Might visit some sites for post & beam construction & draw it up to scale 1/4″ or 1/2″ to the foot ,showing dimensioned plan & elevation views including slab details & foundation.
Show framing forwalls, windows , door openings & any construction details for wall to slab / wall to roof structure , wall & roof sheeting. siding & roof materials.
Visit the American wood council site for spans of joists & rafters
Cite your sources for structural info.
It might fly as is or if an engineers stamp is required ,you can save drafting fees if the design needs only minor changes to meet code.
