Am I overracting? I’m quite upset that I’m training someone who makes more money than me?
Question : Am I overracting? I’m quite upset that I’m training someone who makes more money than me?
Well I am considered the go to person in my department and I get good reviews, yet I have never been promoted. Instead of promoting me to something that I already do (I just don’t get the title or compensation), they promoted someone else instead. The thing that bugs me is that he has 20 years plus experience in a different type of lending (commercial lending; ours is currently high net worth consumer lending), but yet he comes to me with all the questions and have even put me and others in my position down about us being promoted to his position. He doesn’t think we’re good enough, but yet asks us for help. It makes me not want to help him at all.
Anyway, this really pisses me off.

you are not overreacting , this is your what you do for a living , its your life and ppl are using you. i would be pissed if i was training someone that made more than me, if they make more they should not need my help.
Nope, you’re not overreacting. Go rent ’9 to 5′ for a laugh.
1) Talk to your boss (or your boss’s boss if your boss is the person who just got promoted) – ask ‘What do I need to do to get promoted?’. If their answer is reasonable, take notes and set yourself a plan. Follow the plan and every 3-6 months check in with your boss. If after that you don’t get promoted, start looking for another job. Do not quit until you have another job.
2) Start looking for another job anyway. It never hurts to keep your options open.
3) Ask your boss if you’re supposed to be helping this person who got promoted. Document how much time you spend helping them and bring it up at your next review.
Good Luck!
