About the only difference between buying a house and refinancing a house is the fact that you don’t have to house hunt. Other than that, it’s about the same.

As far as the requirements for securing the loan, it’s pretty much the same, same paperwork, you have to get an appraisal, etc. It is a little easier on you, though, because you don’t have the prospect of an upcoming move or the stress of the home you’re buying falling out of escrow if the funding doesn’t go through. If the funding does stall or doesn’t go through, you just wait for it to happen or look for another lender.
