Question : Carfax on a Certified car I like to buy shows it as a commercial lease vehicle. Could you explain this ?
I am about to buy a certified pre owned vehicle from the dealer. But the carfax report shows that it was initially registered as a commercial lease vehicle . Could you tell me how this is different from private lease vehicle.
Thanks in advance.
I was doing some basic internet searching and this is one of the definitions I got for “Commercial Lease Registration” -

If you see a “commercial lease” registration, this is not uncommon based on the fact that the financial institution (bank or leasing company) actually owns the car and lists their company’s name as the registered owners of the vehicle. Most states will automatically assume that the vehicle is commercial due to the fact that the registered owner is a company, not a private individual. In this case, the “commercial” code has nothing to do with the vehicle’s usage, but everything to do with the fact that the registered owner was a company name, not an individual.

Do you think the above is correct ? I got it from the following website :http://www.is-it-a-lemon.com/vehicle_history/faq-commercial.htm

Thanks to everyone who replied :)
I forgot to mention the car.
It is a certified preowned 2006 Audi A4 quottro with 23K miles

It probably means it was a rental car or leased to a secondary leasing company for use. There’s nothing wrong with this, they usually maintain their cars better than individuals.
