I am a satellite installer, though I deal in wire and you with pipes, we do share something in common. Lazy cheap home owner wana-be DIY’ers. In satellites you would not believe some of the things they do in self installs; it is why satellite companies dont really want home owners installing their own systems. In this case they saw a shortcut and took it disregarding the long and short term effects.

Yes! Totally agree. CHEAP HOME OWNER DIY’ERS!!! The reason why we have a set standard of charging, is because we are the professionals. I know what you mean about DIY’ers. They totally drive me nuts when dealing with them. Then they want to question our credentials when they themselves have to leg to stand on……..

This had nothing to do with a shortcut, it had to do with ignorance. There is simply no reason to do this if you had any idea what you were doing; it would save you a cut and be equally as “effective” to simply have the vent an open pipe into the room. I still don’t understand how people can do things like this without reading about what they’re doing first. I am a DIYer but read endlessly before making any moves. I assume this guy saw the word vent and thus tied it not his HVAC’s “vents”
