Has anyone ever used “staging” to sell a house?

You can try to make the house appealing – yourself!

The key is to showcase the best parts of the house. Keep it open, neat and clean and LIGHT.

Does it have a nice fireplace? Make sure it is clean and not blocked from view. Arrange the furniture in that room to focus on that area.

Place as little furniture as possible in each room. That exposes the walls and the floors and makes the room feel bigger.

If the furniture is old fashioned, ugly, or stained and ratty, it is sometimes better not to have it in the house at all. It will date and distract the house, and be a turn-off. Sometimes a simple modern chair with a small table in the corner is more effective than a room full of old stuff.

Take out all artificial plants and flowers, dying real plants, and family pictures, odd collections, etc. Make the rooms neutral so people can envision their own things there.

LIGHT is important. Dark rooms should have extra lighting, and windows should not be covered with blinds or old and ugly drapes. Simple blinds, open to let in the sun, are effective.

Kitchens and bathrooms are critical. Make sure they are uncluttered – bare counters show off working space.

Less is more. Give it a try!
