Question : why do certain places have distinct smells, like retirement homes,hospitals,funeral homes,new cars?
I was just wondering you can walk into a certain building and it has a distinct smell to it, and I was just wondering why that is?

It’s because each place has a particular set of chemicals used to clean stuff or make stuff. Hospitals all smell like spirigel, retirement homes smell like old people, new cars smell like new fabric and polish.

Its got to be the cleaning products and chemicals used, associated with the place, I have worked in nursing homes, its usually a mixture of cleaning products, food, coffee, disinfectant, and… sometimes other stuff. Cars, well the upholstery would have its own smell to do with what its made of, cinemas-popcorn, well I wouldnt want to get into details about funeral homes and stuff but thats the general idea anyhow.

you r right that certain places have distinct smell. why? a difficult question to answer.
i think that every matter has its own odour and color. for example when u go to fruit market u will have nice smell bcoz fruit have their own distinguished nice smell. i think that good things have good smell and bad things have bad one.
