Car Insurance Question?
I’m going home for the holidays in December and want to borrow my dad’s truck for the 3 weeks I’m there. Does my insurance policy (currently drive a Prius) cover me for driving my father’s vehicle? Does his policy cover me driving his vehicle?
Your car insurance covers you the policyholder. Your policy will cover you in his truck. If you wreck his truck your insurance is primary and his is secondary. Your insurance will cover his truck and the other vehicle or object. If you do not have enough coverage to pay for the entire accident his insurance will kick in and pay the remainder. There is a clause in all policies you should be aware of: Any person who has regular use or access to a vehicle must be listed on the policy. So, If anything happens, you should be aware that this could come into play. Let his agent know that you will be driving the vehicle while you are in town. For a few dollars you could add yourself to his policy while there just for peace of mind.
