are FHA loans still available for fixer uppers?
I am hearing conflicting information about FHA loans. I am reading online that FHA has a program for fixer uppers. I believe it is called a 203k loan.
However, I have been told that they no longer do the loan program for fixer uppers.
Can someone clarify? If it matters, I reside in California.
Thanks in advance.
From what I understand, there are about 19 different types of FHA loans. I know of three. FHA 203(b) – that’s a ‘regular’ FHA loan. No repairs to be done after closing. Next is the 203(b) with repair escrow – escrow of up to $5k is held for repairs after closing to bring the property up to FHA standards. Lastly, the 203(k) when the repairs will be more than $5k.
I’ve only ever seen the “203(b) with repair escrow” done on HUD houses.
