When you have to move your piano across the international borders, then international moving is provided by many piano movers. But it is a cumbersome task to choose international piano mover who is reliable and handles your goods with extreme care. Actually the overseas shipping is carried by the freight forwarder who gathers goods from various customers and puts them in containers or vessels for loading them on the ship.

Basically the piano mover will pick up the piano from you and deliver it to the freight forwarders. It is the responsibility of the two men and a truck and the freight forwarders to let know which vessel will be carrying your possessions and which port will it be leaving and arriving at. They will also inform you about the number of the container, departure and arrival dates and ports of call during the route.

While you have hired the piano mover, they will ensure complete protection of your piano. However, these days certain customers ask to wrap the pianos in airtight plastic while shipping overseas. This prevents the exposure of piano to excess humidity. Therefore you should enquire the piano mover, whether airtight shipment is possible or not.

Generally the two men and a truck are not required to provide insurance. But they make it available for their esteemed customers. Insurance is based on the replacement value at the concerned destination. One thing to keep in mind over here is that you must ensure that the insurance is ‘all risk marine policy’ that also consists of ‘general average clause’.

How to move a piano?
A piano is placed on a skid also known as a ‘piano board’ before moving. The piano is neatly covered with the blanket and firmly strapped to the piano board. In case the piano is moved on a flat surface the piano mover will put the board on a platform that has wheels. Now it will be rolled to the destination that is either a truck or the staircase. If the piano has to be moved on the staircase, the piano mover will remove the platform and skid it slowly down the staircase. Once it reaches the two men and a truck, it will again be rolled on the slide of the truck.

Effects of moving a piano
Even though your two men and a truck have delivered the piano to you in a timely manner and in a perfect condition, you might notice that the piano sounds horrible after two or three weeks. This is not because your piano mover has done something while it was being carried; it is because of the change in the humidity levels. This change takes a little while to show its effects. Thus you should wait for at least two weeks before tuning the piano.

Yet another important aspect of the piano is the pedals that get easily out of the kilter during moving. This can be seen with a piano mover who is less careful. Hence once you reach your destination, get these corrected.
