if it is a new roll just used if you fold under the end about half inch it will be easier to restart.if it is old or cold let it warm up to room temp.and you should be able to re start it. if the edges are damaged chuck it it will only keep braking and pi!! you off and you will throw it and it will brake some thing else for you to fix.it,s called Murphy’s law.i.m sure you heard of it..good luck
Mike is right. It is frustrating to try to get the tape to start up again without strips tearing off.
My suggestion is that for future rolls of tape, make sure you fold over about 1/8″ inch of the open end when you are finished. That will make it easier to start the new section. Some of the newer type of tape dispensers have an edge to which the tape adheres from the sticky side, right along side the cutter. One of those types would be a good investment if you use tape a lot.
If it has gotten cooked (in car for example) or is old, you may not be able to get it into usable form. I usually give up on trying to catch the original end, which just peels and tears and take a sharp knife or razor blade and make a shallow cut, through 2-3 layers, across the tape then use the blade corner to lift all the layers off and throw them away. Usually, because the way cuts work, the next layer also ends at the cut before being able to pull off long pieces.
