Can someone please clue me into which moving truck rental is generally the most resonable in price?
Additionally, if anyone can tell me if its more reasonable to go with a moving company and can recommend one which is affordable. . . Any tips on bartering for better estimates would be helpful too.

We are a military family. We have moved 8 times in 10 years, sometimes we did the moves ourselves, and sometimes we had professionals do it. If you just want to rent a truck and move yourself, U-Haul is probably the best way to go, and believe it or not, they have the largest assortment of trucks , the lowest rent-per-day fees, and the best service IF you ever have an issue like a flat tire, etc. as well as the most pick-up drop off locations, meaning you the customer get the best service. Sometimes you can go into a local U-Haul rental/pick up location and they may offer you a 17 ft truck for the price of a 14. Otherwise, book online for the most savings, and you will be allowed to choose a pickup location at their website. Allied/Carlyle are the best for pack it up move it, unload it type moving, but are very expensive.

Unless you have a lot of money to spend, avoid moving companies. Sure, it is a hassle to move yourself but, you save a bundle in the long run.
I strongly recommend Budget for the most reasonable truck rental service. They charge a hefty deposit but, you get it back when you turn the truck in at your destination. -

The only professional moving company I have ever used was Allied. They were fair in price but still sort of expensive.
As for rental of a moving truck it depends on if it is a local move or a long distance move. Penske is reasonable for local moves but charge a high fee if you turn the truck in at a location other than where you rented. Ryder and U-Haul would be better for long distance. You will have to pay a deposit on the truck but if no damages are found it is fully returned when you turn the truck in.

Depending on how far you are moving will affect how you want to move. If it’s a local move then U Haul or Penski is your best bet.
I just moved from Florida to Texas and used Penski. I booked on line and got a discount and because I have AAA I got another discount. Penski was cheaper than U Haul for me. There are also a couple of companies that you load the truck and they deliver. ABF and Movex are two you can check on line.
A 26′ Penski was $1200, ABF was $2200 and Movex was $2500. I went with the Penski. The cheapest moving company was $5500.
