Hello! A PCS from AZ to SC, how fun! I PCSEd from North Carolina to California, and then from California to Texas. I personlly think PENSKE trucks are the least expensive and better. As far as moving supplies, your local PX would be the best place to get boxes…because they are FREE. Usually night time is the best time to collect boxes…give them a call, they can let you know when the best tiem would be to come in and get boxes. (you are trying to save money here, I assume) Newspaper works great for packing paper, and if you dont have enough, get on a freecyle site and request it. I am sure people would more than happy to give you their old newspapers. With a FULL DITTY move, you need to try to get as many free resources as you can, because belive it or not, you can end up paying out of your own pocket. If you buy supplies, (from penske or any other rental place) KEEP your receipts, as they are reimbursed. A rental truck is not reimbursed by the military, but it is a TAX WRITE OFF, so make sure you keep all receipts for this as well for when you file your taxes.
call your local housing office. they usually have places/ resources to give you moving supplies and or do a partial ditty move and have the military do it for you…its cutting it close but you can still make it work
Liqour stores will give you boxes. Check with the relocation center on base, i bet they have a list of resources. Try to talk with a civilian who is from the area though, not some boot.
Are you renting a truck to move? [U-haul, Budget, etc] Because those places all sell supplies and will rent you a dolly, furniture pads, etc. The prices are all reasonable. You can also buy boxes from self-storage places.
